Move, breathe & connect

Pregnancy Yoga

When can I start pregnancy yoga?

It's advised to attend from around 14–15 weeks of pregnancy, right through until the very last day of your pregnancy. Even just one class towards the end can be wonderfully beneficial.

Do I need any yoga experience?

None at all. Classes welcome complete beginners as well as regular yogis — every pose is gentle, guided and can be adapted to where you and your body are today.

Is pregnancy yoga safe? Are there any reasons I shouldn't attend?

For a low-risk pregnancy there is almost no medical reason not to attend. Some conditions — symphysis pubis dysfunction, pelvic girdle pain, low back pain, sciatica, varicose veins or a twin pregnancy — may still be fine with adaptation and medical advice. In rarer cases (confirmed placenta praevia in the third trimester, vaginal bleeding of unknown cause, pre-eclampsia, preterm labour, severe anaemia, or an incompetent cervix / cervical cerclage) pregnancy yoga is not advised. If in doubt, please check with me and your midwife or GP.

How does pregnancy yoga help with birth?

As a midwife, I weave real birth biomechanics into class — breathing, relaxation and positions that help your baby navigate the pelvis. The aim is to ease aches now, and give you practical tools and confidence to draw on during labour.

What should I wear and bring?

Wear comfortable clothing you can move and stretch in, and bring a bottle of water. Mats and props are provided, though you're very welcome to bring your own if you prefer.

Where are classes held?

Pregnancy yoga is held in small groups in Hillcross Avenue, Morden. The exact location will be given once you have made a booking. (Classes are on a summer break and return in September — you're welcome to join the September list.)

How much does it cost, and how does booking work?

Sessions are 1 hour 15 minutes, one-to-one or in a small group of up to 3. Each session is £60 — so if you bring two friends along it works out at just £20 each. Classes are booked as a block of 4 sessions, to be used over 6 weeks. Contact me to agree on a convenient start date and time.

After baby arrives

Mum & Baby Yoga

What is Mum & Baby yoga?

It's a gentle postnatal yoga class you enjoy together with your baby. It supports your recovery, helps rebuild strength softly, eases the aches of feeding and carrying, and gives you calm, connected time with your little one — and other mums.

When can I start after birth?

Usually once you've had your six-week postnatal check and feel ready. If you had a caesarean or a more complex birth, it's best to wait a little longer and have your GP's go-ahead first.

How old should my baby be?

Classes suit babies from around six weeks until they're confidently crawling and on the move. Before that, your baby is happy to lie close, be held and join in.

What if my baby cries, feeds or needs a nappy change?

That's completely welcome — it's a relaxed, baby-led space. Feed, soothe or change your baby whenever you need to. There's no pressure for anyone (including you) to be perfectly calm the whole time.

Do I need yoga experience or to be "fit"?

Not at all. Movements are gentle and designed for a postnatal body, with a focus on the core, pelvic floor and posture. You go at your own pace.

What should I bring?

Comfortable clothing, a bottle of water, a soft blanket for your baby and a couple of nappies. Mats and props are provided.

Where are classes held, and what's the cost?

Mum & Baby yoga is held in Hillcross Avenue, Morden, on Wednesdays from 11:00 to 12:00. It's booked as a 5-week block at £15 per session (£75), or £16.50 as a single drop-in. The exact location will be given once you have made a booking.

Calm, confident birth preparation

KGHypnobirthing

What is KGHypnobirthing?

KGHypnobirthing is the original, fully accredited UK hypnobirthing method, created by Katharine Graves. It's a complete, evidence-based antenatal course that uses breathing, deep relaxation, a positive mindset and practical birth education to help you understand how your body and mind work together in labour — so you can feel calm, informed and in control. I'm a certified KGHypnobirthing teacher, so you'll learn the method exactly as it's designed, with the official KGHypnobirthing book and relaxation audios included.

Will I be "hypnotised" or unaware of what's happening?

No — this isn't stage hypnosis. You stay fully aware and in control throughout. Hypnobirthing simply teaches you relaxation and focus techniques you can use whenever you need them.

Is hypnobirthing only for a "natural" birth?

Not at all. It isn't about one "perfect" birth. Whether your birth is vaginal, induced, assisted or by caesarean, hypnobirthing helps you feel prepared, supported and positive every step of the way.

When should I start?

Any time before birth is helpful, but many parents begin in the second trimester or from around 25–30 weeks. This gives you time to practise the techniques so they feel natural by the time your baby arrives.

Should my birth partner take part?

Yes, if possible — your partner has a real, active role and often feels far more confident and useful. If you're a solo parent or your partner can't attend, you're still very welcome, and can bring a friend, family member or doula.

What's included, and how is the course run?

The full course is around 8 hours, 1:1, online or in person in Morden, and includes the KGHypnobirthing book and the audio relaxation tracks. There's also a shorter Introduction to Hypnobirthing taster session if you'd like a gentle first taste.
